Personal Style Accessory basics for every woman
By Sophie Culpepper
The handbag is probably the most necessary and iconic accessory that a woman owns. Her choice of bags may be the result of scouting for certain details in one perfect package or it may be a purchase based purely on an emotional response. One thing is certain, for either type of woman, one bag won’t even begin to cover it.
A woman should have five types of bags in her accessories wardrobe.
• Classically shaped, medium-sized leather bags for every day. Satchels and hobos are good examples. Many of the top brands – of which Hermes reigns supreme – make classic and versatile shapes in luxurious leathers that really last. Even if top brands are out of your price range, you should familiarize yourself with what their bags look like so that you stay up to date with current bag silhouettes. They are, after all, the source.
• Large bags for work. Depending on your job, this could be an oversized bag with a flap or an open top leather tote with handles. For those who work at home or juggle child rearing with career, a tote with a durable, washable finish may be more practical. Large bags need lots of pockets, otherwise you will find yourself digging hopelessly in a messy abyss every time you need something. Treat yourself to a purse organizer that has a pocket for every item and can be transferred easily from one bag to the next.
• Clutches to hold your wallet, keys and lipstick. Keep the clutch in your large bag so you only have to carry the smaller bag when you leave the office to run an errand, or for lunch, or at the end of the day for an event. Many clutches come with a wrist strap or a detachable chain that can make the bag more functional. Anything from a large wristlet wallet to a classic quilted clutch will work.
